Laguna, Philippines – The BPI Foundation (BPIF) has formalized a partnership with Mapúa Malayan Colleges Laguna (MMCL) to expand financial literacy in underserved communities through the FinEd Unboxed Program.

The program aims to equip students, faculty, and volunteers to become resource speakers on practical financial skills such as budgeting, saving, credit management, investing, insurance, retirement planning, and fraud prevention. Once trained, these Mapúa community members will conduct workshops and financial wellness sessions for partner communities in Laguna, Cavite, Pampanga, Tagaytay, and Biñan.

Key activities under the partnership include:
- Training sessions for students and faculty on financial concepts
- Use of FinEd Unboxed materials and toolkits for community-based workshops
- Organization of financial wellness sessions led by trained participants
- Ongoing mentorship to ensure effective delivery and engagement
Carmina Marquez, Executive Director of BPIF, emphasized, “Financial education is a critical enabler of inclusive growth. By partnering with institutions like Mapúa MCL, we bring these opportunities closer to communities, empowering individuals to make informed decisions and secure their future.”
Over the next two years, the program is projected to reach more than 10,000 individuals, building on the success of a similar initiative at Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao (MMCM) in Davao City, which has already benefited over 2,000 people.
Dr. Dodjie Maestrecampo, MMCL President, added, “This partnership allows our students and faculty to apply their knowledge beyond the classroom and make a real impact in communities with limited access to financial education.”
The collaboration aligns with three United Nations Sustainable Development Goals:
- SDG 4 – Quality Education
- SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth
- SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals
As BPI celebrates its 175th anniversary, the bank continues its mission of financial inclusion, bringing practical and relevant education to communities across the Philippines.
